2020 FTC National Champion Robot

A competition robot I designed as a student of FTC team 11148 Barker Greybacks, which won NSW undefeated, and won the Australian National Championship.

Overview

For the 2020 FIRST Tech Challenge season, I was part of team 11148 Barker Greybacks building a compact Ultimate Goal robot around a custom sheet-style chassis, ring transfer, shooter, and wobble goal mechanisms. The robot won the NSW competition undefeated, then went on to win the Australian FTC National Championship.

The finished machine paired a dense CAD-led structure with mechanisms that were practical to assemble, tune, and keep running through competition.

  • Designed around a compact custom mechanum chassis and integrated superstructure
  • Built mechanisms for ring intake, transfer, shooting, and wobble goal handling
  • Balanced packaging, serviceability, and repeatable scoring performance under FTC constraints

Results

At the NSW qualifying tournament, Barker Greybacks went undefeated and won the event as alliance captain. The team then won the Australian FTC National Championship, finishing first in qualification rankings and taking the national title.

Chronological build timeline

The robot moved from CAD architecture into subsystem experiments, then into physical chassis and superstructure assembly before the final competition configuration.
